INTERMEDIA (PAINTING IS DEAD), 2019 (Installation for Intermediate: Fluxus Interpretations curated by Dawne Langford at DCAC)

This work is a conversation about in-ness/out-ness of traditional versus emerging artistic media and the resources we employ to present them. It is by circumstance based on a codependence of institutional art and creation. I built this wooden box as a display platform that has been used in two (dramatically dissimilar) exhibitions, this being the third. In both prior uses, the box was beneath the objects it supported. In repurposing and shifting focus, it sheds any carried subordination or reference to preexisting use.

Here— standing upright—it both adds and becomes substrate to the digital image of a painting I believe to have ruined by insincere marks. The result is a hypocritical meeting of two singularly uninteresting objects made spectacle by machine.
